UPDATE June 28, 2021, at 11:30am CT:
West River/Lyman Jones Rural Water has issued a system wide emergency water use restriction—which includes Fort Pierre.
Initially the water use restriction was for customers in Lyman County because of a Lower Brule Rural Water pump station failure near Kennebec. But, because of a Mni Wiconi core pipeline leak at Fort Pierre, WR/LJ Rural Water expanded the water use restriction to include its entire system. The restriction is in effect until further notice.
Customers must conserve water to help WR/LJ maintain pressure throughout the system. During this emergency period, customers SHOULD NOT:
- Use water for lawn irrigation
- Wash vehicles
- Wash pavement or other surfaces
- Fill pools
- Fill spray tanks
- Use water for other unnecessary purposes
These emergency restrictions are necessary to ensure water is available for citizens, businesses, livestock and other primary needs.
WR/LJ will continue to work with the Bureau of Reclamation and Oglala Sioux Rural Water Supply System during this supply shortage situation.
