Pierre’s new outdoor pool will be built in two phases, and last night (June 29) the city commission approved the plan to bid the first phase, which is earthwork.
Park and Recreation director Tom Farnsworth says Pierre has challenging soil where the new pool will be built. He says they’ll have to do a substantial amount of earthwork before the facility can start taking shape
Farnsworth says the first project phase is scheduled for completion this year. He says the goal is for the new material to settle over the winter months, providing the stable site needed for the new pool.
Farnsworth says if the schedule stays on track, construction of the structures will happen next year (2022) and the pool will open in 2023. He says Pierre’s new water treatment facility will be operational by then; that’ll strip the high-mineral content from the water and prevent staining of the new pool vessel and associated structures.
The phase one bid opening is scheduled for July 15. Earthwork is expected to begin in August.
