Simply Smiles, Inc. is hiring for several positions at the Simply Smiles Children’s Village on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation in South Dakota, including a Clinical Coordinator, Village Manager, and professional foster parents.
The Simply Smiles Children’s Village is an intentional community of foster families serving the children most at-risk on the Reservation. The Village offers child placement options that fulfill the spirit of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) by ensuring that Native children who have been removed from their homes can remain with kin and community.
“Our Village team helps to create a safe, supportive environment where children can heal, thrive, and become strong leaders, role models, and Lakota citizens of the world,” says Simply Smiles President and Founder Bryan Nurnberger.
Licensed mental health professionals are sought for the role of Clinical Coordinator. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day case management and delivery of mental health services to children and foster parents, as well as oversight of clinical operations at the Children’s Village. They supervise clinicians at the Children’s Village, carry a caseload, and work in partnership with our professional foster parents.
Experienced, driven applicants are sought for the Village Manager position. The Village Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Simply Smiles Children’s Village, including management of foster parents, program staff, and volunteers; the program budget; and community partnerships.
Simply Smiles is seeking individuals and couples to serve as full-time, professional foster parents. Central to the Village’s progressive model, the organization has professionalized being a foster parent. Foster parents are employed, licensed, trained, and supported by Simply Smiles to address the unique needs of Native children. Fostering at the Village is rooted in Lakota traditions and guided by trauma-informed, therapeutic healing practices. Onsite housing, salary, and benefits are provided to those who become Simply Smiles professional foster parents.
The Simply Smiles Children’s Village is a collaborative effort, with formal support from the Cheyenne River Tribal Council; partnerships with tribal elders, Native American luminaries, and activists across the country; and licensing from the State of South Dakota Department of Social Services. In addition to financial support from its extensive supporter network, Simply Smiles also receives funding regionally, including from the South Dakota Housing Authority and the John T. Vucurevich Foundation, among others.
