Gov. Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed tomorrow (July 26) Americans with Disabilities Act Day in South Dakota.
The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodations, telecommunications, commercial facilities and state and local government services.
South Dakota Department of Human Services Cabinet Secretary Gloria Pearson says the ADA has helped develop and promote equal opportunity, independence and full participation of people with disabilities within the state.
The proclamation coincides with the 28th anniversary of the signing of the ADA by President George H.W. Bush in 1990.
