At this week’s meeting (July 13, 2021), the Pierre City Commission approved items that will bring new resources to Rawlins Municipal Library, finish two city projects and move another project a step forward.
The commission accepted an $80,000 federal grant to supply Rawlins Library with additional technology. The American Rescue Plan Act grant will fund new computer stations, new early learner stations, a webcam, a public scanner, laptops, and an interactive floor mat to help children learn through physical activity.
A Tax Increment Financing program was established in 2009 to help fund infrastructure for the Eagle Creek development. A TIF is an economic development tool that allows future tax payments to be put toward eligible project infrastructure costs.
The TIF has now been paid off and dissolved. Terms of the agreement dictated that the TIF would end once $828,000 in deferred tax payments was paid back to PEDCO or 13 years had passed. The final deferred payment was made this spring.
An extension of the city water main is going out for bid. The city is adding water main between Poplar Avenue and Henry Street. The extension will allow the new water treatment facility being built near the bridge in southwest Pierre to connect to the city’s existing drinking water distribution system.
Bid opening is scheduled for July 29; the water main extension work is tentatively scheduled for later this year.
And, the Pierre City Commission approved a request to close the B Street project. B Street was built earlier this year in northeast Pierre to provide secondary access to the industrial park located near the Pierre Regional Airport and surrounding businesses.
