South Dakota Corn has hired former state Senator and state Secretary of Agriculture Mike Jaspers as its interim Executive Director.
Jaspers assumed leadership Thursday, July 22, following the resignation of Lisa Richardson, who has led the organization for nearly 25 years.
“This organization is more than one person; it is the board; it is every farmer member and supporter,” Jaspers said. “Together we will continue to be a positive force for farmers.”
In addition to his role as Executive Director, Jaspers is the Business Development Director for East River Electric.
“We look forward to working with Mike,” said Scott Stahl, President of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association. “His depth of experience and ability to work with all stakeholders will certainly benefit our members and South Dakota agriculture.”
Chad Blindauer, Vice President, South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, said their organization is moving forward with a heightened focus on accountability.
“We are examining the financial oversight of the organization, and as a result, we are submitting a request for proposals to perform a financial audit,” he said. “We are also reviewing our internal processes to ensure transparency and accountability as we move forward.”
Blindauer said they would share more information once the review process is completed.
