At yesterday’s (August 3, 2021) meeting of the Walworth County Commission, the commissioners heard the proposal to turn the Mobridge ShopKo building into a jail facility from the groups brought in by Commissioner Kevin Holgard.
Commissioner Holgard’s motion to sign a letter of intent for further studies to be done by these groups failed on a 3 to 2 roll call vote.
Commissioner Rick Cain said one of the reasons he voted no had to do with Selby being a small town.
Next on the agenda, the commission heard the findings from the 2018 and 2019 legislative audits. Auditor General Russ Olson and DLA Dave Schlosser told the commissioners “significant errors” were found, and many adjustments had to be made to the financial papers to correct them. The commissioners were also told that the auditor’s and treasurer’s numbers should be reconciled to each other every month, and that the auditor is to give the commission a monthly report.
Also at the meeting Tuesday, motions were passed to schedule joint public hearings of a cannabis ordinance and cannabis licensing provisions on August 17th.
Another public hearing was set for August 17th for a preserve hunting liquor license for patrons staying at Rieger Creek on Main Street in Selby.
