Jerry Curley was born on July 29, 1970 to Grace Curley and Stanley Moran in Eagle Butte, SD. Jerry joined big brother Terry and later on his siblings joined him SherRon and Grant Langley, Sam, Jesse, Corey, Sianna, Stancee and Chalsey Moran. Jerry attended school in Eagle Butte then left for Job Corp in Clearfield, UT where he received his GED on April 20, 1993.
He was blessed with his children Marcus, Jerrica, Ariel, Crystina, Stevy, Ridge, Mason, Gracelynn, and Jeri.
Jerry wore many hats, as he was a jack of all trades. He and his good friend, Dusty, were the owner of HG Construction. If the work wasn’t always done right the first time, they would correct it the next day.
Jerry met many people throughout his travels making friends everywhere he went. You could hear his laugh from miles away, and Jerry’s smile, laugh, jokes and crazy stories will be missed by all. His favorite catch phrase was “What’s crack-a-lackin”. Jerry was good at telling stories but would never finish he would always say “but that’s for me to know, or oh wait I can’t tell you about that one, or that’s a story for another time”. Jerry would always show up out of nowhere, ready to help in any way possible.
Jerry was a Sundancer at Red Dogs in On the Tree. There he met his mentor and hunka dad, Bob Walters. He met Susie and Steve Payne and had a special bond with them. Even after he and Steph parted ways, he would love to raise heck with Susie. Jerry said he could sing like George Strait and ride like Lane Frost, and his name was “Laying Strait”.
Most of his life he lived in Eagle Butte. In his trailer behind Rosie’s is where you could usually find him jamming out and having a good ole time with his buddies. At the time of his passing, he made his home in McLaughlin with Pauline and the boys. He worked at the Cenex in McLaughlin. He was a grass dancer, and a flute player. He was the champion santa grass dancer at the Old Agency Christmas Wacipi. Jerry left a lasting imprint on many lives.
