PIERRE – In a frustrating pair of games for the home teams, Pierre Governor Soccer was swept Thursday by the Harrisburg Tigers at the PILC Soccer Complex.
Harrisburg controlled the girls’ match, beating Pierre 2-0 on goals by Regina Stoeser and Madeline Scott. Pierre was outshot 11-3 as the Governors’ offense had very few chances, thanks to a difficult Harrisburg defense. Pierre, fourth in the AA girls coaches poll, is now 6-2.
The Harrisburg boys pulled off a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Pierre 2-1. Pierre had the run of play in the first half, but was held to a goalless draw at halftime. Rylan Derry put Pierre in front with a 51st-minute goal, but the match then changed eight minutes later when Harrisburg defender Sean Stanga scored on a free kick from just inside the midfield stripe. In the 62nd minute, Max Bates gave the Tigers the lead from a shot of about 30 yards that fooled Pierre goalkeeper Carson Ahartz. Tiger keeper Josiah Hutton made eight saves on 13 Pierre shots. The Governors are now 4-3-1.
Both teams will play at Brandon Valley Saturday.
