South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has signed an Executive Order 2021-13 (Sept. 14, 2021) that extends the timeframe some hay haulers may legally operate in the state.
The order allows people to move hay from two hours before sunrise to two hours after sunset. The order applies to oversize hay haulers who have a permit. These haulers must be properly equipped with warning lights, and they cannot run overweight.
Under state statute, hay haulers are typically only allowed to move hay a half-hour before sunrise and a half-hour after sunset.
Producers who need hay can find more information on the South Dakota State University Extension website.
