Pierre has passed a $57.2 million budget for 2022, a $3.5 million increase from this year’s spending plan.
City finance officer Twila Hight says sales tax revenue has been increasing.
Hight says Pierre’s 2022 budget only includes one utility rate increase.
Mayor Steve Harding says Pierre residents can expect infrastructure improvements from the 2022 budget. He says there’s an additional $1 million to improve streets and the modernization of Pierre’s three largest utilities– electric, wastewater and drinking water– will continue.
Pierre’s budget runs on a calendar year. The majority of the City’s funds comes from sales tax, the rates paid for utilities and a property tax allotment.
