Burton James Ducheneaux was born on December 27, 1940 at Cheyenne Agency to Frederick Ducheneaux and Josephine “Annie” LeBeau. Burke, as often called by many, had 9 other siblings; Susan, LeNeta, Bryant, Carla, Flora, Elnora, Cheryl, Ellis “Pat” and Richard. Before he turned 18, Burke was enlisted in and was serving in the US Navy. In August 1972, he married Shirley Martin in Ft. Pierre, SD. During the course of their marriage, they had 5 children; Mary, Carmen, Burton Jr, Michelle and Nicole. Burton has three grandchildren; Taylor, Mario and Remyrick and numerous nieces and nephews. Burton is a US Navy Veteran, was a former Eagle Butte City Police Officer, truck driver and co-owned and operated Lucky Lanes Lounge and Blondies Arcade with Shirley. He was a Jack of all trades, loved his horseshoes and tournaments, loved his bowling with the Bowling Leagues and won many trophies in each. He loved to hunt, play poker and enjoyed a good prank and so much more.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents, his son Burton Jr, a few siblings and many other relatives.
For the past few years, Burke was in nursing homes and had been living at Medicine Wheel Village in Eagle Butte, where he lived until his passing.
Burke’s daughters are extremely grateful for the love, care, patience, kindness, compassion, dedication and professional care he received from the staff at Medicine Wheel and are deeply grateful to each and every one for his care while there. We would also like to thank Avantara Redfield and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital staff for the kindness, care and compassion shown to Burke and his family during this difficult time.
