The driver wasn’t injured, but a semi and its cargo are estimated to have $150-thousand damage after the semi hit the train bridge on South Pierre Street yesterday (Thurs.) morning.
According to the Pierre Police Department, about 11:15am 54-year-old Dahou Tafic of Windsor Ontario, Canada, was northbound on Pierre Street and didn’t see the signage indicating the bridge height. After striking the bridge, Tafic continued his attempt to travel north resulting in the cargo striking the bridge rendering the vehicle immobile.
Officers, with the assistance of the Pierre Street Department, closed a portion of Pierre Street to northbound traffic. A local contractor was called to assist in offloading the cargo. Officers were on scene for approximately one hour.
Tafic was issued a citation for a Truck Route Violation.
