Inmate Eric Blue Bird placed on escape status from Department of Corrections facility in Sioux Falls

A minimum-security state prison inmate has been placed on escape status.

Inmate Eric Blue Bird left a community service work assignment at the Sioux Falls Community Work Center without authorization today.

Blue Bird, age 29, is a Native American male. He is 6-feet-tall and weighs 260 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Blue Bird is serving sentences for aggravated assault from Jackson County and Minnehaha County.

If you see Blue Bird or know of his whereabouts, contact law enforcement immediately.

Failure to return to custody following an assignment constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
