PIERRE – Lincoln Kienholz set a school record with eight touchdown passes, four to Jack Merkwan, and ran for a ninth Friday as the Pierre Governors easily defeated the Huron Tigers 61-7 in the Homecoming game at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium.
Kienholz, who was 16-of-27 for 396 yards, hit Merkwan for touchdown passes of 43, 45, two and 72 yards. Kienholz also threw for scores to Cade Kaiser, Matthew Hanson, Brock Moser and Trey Lewis. Merkwan had six catches for 220 yards. The Governors (5-1) scored on nine of their 10 first-half possessions.
Huron (2-4) scored their only touchdown on a 48-yard play from Mason Davis to Jayden Beck.
With the win, the Governors moved into second place in the 11AA seed points standings.
