The Pierre City Commission has approved the design contract to expand and renovate the nearly 30-year-old Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area building.
City FEMA coordinator Gidget Palmer says they’ll have the design by Jan. 10.
Other funding already in play includes a $770-thousand Community Development Block Grant and up to $2-million from the City of Pierre– if the club can secure matching funding for its half of the cost.
Also at this week’s meeting, the Pierre City Commission approved a resolution of support allowing the Park Department to apply for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.
City parks and recreation director Tom Farnsworth says if received, the funds would be used to build a Griffin Park Outdoor Gathering Space.
Total estimated cost of the project is a little over $73-thousand. It’s a 50-50 grant so Farnworth says the City would use cash and in-kind labor to cover its portion of about $36-thousand.
