The Pierre City Commission approved changes to three city ordinances affecting driveways and sidewalks.
The changes allow driveways to be an additional six feet in width—for a maximum of 36 feet– as long as the lot is at least 60 feet wide and has sufficient on-street parking.
The commission also approved minimum standards for driveway and sidewalk construction to provide more seamless transitions between sidewalks and driveways. This will extend the useful life of both driveways and sidewalks.
They changes only affect new construction and are not retroactive.
