South Dakota has joined a multi-state lawsuit against President Joe Biden’s COVID vaccine mandates for staff and volunteers in Head Start Programs.
Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says Head Start provides needed resources to underserved children and their families.
“Like the other efforts of the Biden Administration to impose medical decisions on Americans and South Dakotans this mandate to mask two-year-olds and vaccinate teachers will cost jobs and impact child development. This overreach would negatively impact working families and single parents across our state.”
Under current federal requirements, teachers, contractors and volunteers in Head Start Programs must be vaccinated by Jan. 31, 2022,– or it will cost jobs and programming.
The lawsuit (Louisiana, et al. vs. Becerra, et al.) is being led by Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry. In addition to South Dakota, other state attorneys general supporting the litigation are from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Wyoming and West Virginia.
