PIERRE – Kirk Beebout has been named as the new girls’ basketball head coach for the Pierre Governors. Beebout has spent the last seven seasons as boys’ head coach at Hamlin, where he led the Chargers to an 83-70 record. He does have experience coaching girls’ basketball with the Sacred Hoops program, thanks to Allan Bertram, the former Chamberlain girls’ head coach, who recently took over the Rapid City Central girls’ program. Beebout replaces Scott DeBoer, who recently resigned after seven seasons and is moving to Watertown, where his wife will become an elementary school principal.
Beebout said that he is anxious to start his new job.
Basketball means a lot to Beebout.
Beebout, from Clear Lake, went to Minnesota State-Moorehead, then had his first assistant coaching job in Minnesota. But he said he didn’t hesitate to return to South Dakota for the Hamlin job.
Beebout is proud of what he did as Hamlin boys’ head coach.
Beebout has nothing against Class A, where he coached at Hamlin, but he said that being at an AA school is a great opportunity.
Beebout related his experience coaching with Sacred Hoops and the help of Allen Bertrand.
Are there differences between coaching boys and girls in high school basketball?
Beebout doesn’t know Scott DeBoer, but can tell that he improved the Governor girls’ program.
