The Walworth County Commission passed several motions to fill vacancies in the Auditor’s office. Director of Equalization Deb Kahl will step away from her department head position to become a deputy auditor. Greg Pudwill will now be the department head in the Assessor’s office. Kahl is also cross-training to help out in the Register of Deeds office, which is also without a deputy. Brenda DeToy, who has worked as a deputy auditor in the past, will take on that duty once again to fill the voids left with the departures of both Eva Cagnones and Marcie Keller. Keller addressed the commissioners regarding the jail, the failed opt-out election, and the future of the county.
Mobridge City Finance Officer Heather Beck, along with Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen, approached the commission with a request to have the county be the FEMA grant funds applicant and the City of Mobridge the sub-applicant on an almost four million dollar project to rehab the water intake system, which will benefit the whole county in addition to Mobridge. Beck explained what the county’s role would be.
The commission then passed a motion to be the grant applicant on the project.
The commissioners approved the First Reading of an Ordinance to change the boundaries of county commissioner districts. Equalization Director Deb Kahl said the redistricting had to be done after the last census.
Also at Tuesday’s (Jan. 18th) meeting, the commissioners accepted the resignation of Veteran Services Officer Stephan Volk. The county will advertise for two weeks to fill the position.
The board also approved adjusting rubble pricing at the landfill to thirty dollars, retroactive to January 1st.
Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll encouraged the commissioners to stop by and acknowledge his transport guards.
