SD Citizens for Liberty releases 2019 Legislature scorecard for all 2nd Amendment bills

By Diane Deis Apr 8, 2019 | 8:42 AM
SD Citizens for Liberty, Inc. released their Second Amendment Voter Guide and Legislative Scorecard today (April 8).  The publication features a complete record of all votes cast on every bill introduced in the 2019 session that would have an impact on Second Amendment rights.

“Our Second Amendment rights are under attack all across the nation”, said Tonchi Weaver, SDCFL’s project manager.  “Most South Dakotans don’t realize that there is an ideological divide occurring right here at home.  Because the Second Amendment is the guardian of every right we have as free people, it merits a separate scorecard”.   The report includes every vote each legislator cast in the 2019 session on bills that would affect South Dakota citizens’ constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms.

“We undertake this effort to help voters separate fact from political rhetoric”,  said Mrs. Weaver.  She went on to explain that prior to release, the scorecards were sent to every legislator’s state email account, and personal email, if known.  No one disputed the accuracy of their votes in this report, nor did any legislator identify any bills that were overlooked.  Legislator’s Second Amendment scores will be included in their composite score on the comprehensive 2019 Legislative Scorecard and Voter Guide due out in the weeks ahead.

“People want to know how their legislators are actually voting on these key issues, versus what they claim on the campaign trail”, Weaver added.  “The complete voting record on all gun bills is a valuable tool to that end.”
