UPDATE JANUARY 31, 2022:
A 17 year old boy from Letcher, SD, has been identified as the person who died Thursday night (7:18pm Jan. 27, 2022) in a one-vehicle crash seven miles east of Parkston.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates 17 year old William Spader of Parkston was driving a 2006 Chrysler Sebring northbound on 417th Avenue when he swerved to miss a deer. Spader lost control and the vehicle went into the ditch, hit a tree and rolled. Passenger Kyle Hohn, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the Parkston hospital. Spader was wearing a seat belt and received minor injuries.
Charges are pending against Spader.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The 17-year-old male passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the Parkston hospital. The 17-year-old male driver, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries.
Charges are pending against the driver.
