UPDATE FEBRUARY 7, 2022:
A 54-year old man from Sioux City, IA, has been identified as the person killed Thursday afternoon (4:39pm Feb. 3, 2022) in a one-vehicle crash six miles north of Elk Point.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates Joseph Hoover was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Interstate 29 when it entered the median. He overcorrected, the vehicle went across both southbound lanes, into the west ditch and rolled.
Hoover, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was flown to a Sioux City, Iowa hospital where he was pronounced dead.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
