A new group in Pierre and Fort Pierre is trying to make the transition from the South Dakota Women’s Prison back into civilian life a little bit easier.
Magdalene Director of Development Jennie Palmer says the project developed out of a group that has been volunteering at the Prison.
Palmer says the Magdalene group is hosting a “Celebration of Womanliness” tomorrow (Feb. 19, 2022) from 7-9pm at the St. Charles Lounge in Pierre.
Palmer says Magdalene has feminine product collection boxes at over 20 locations throughout Pierre and Fort Pierre. She says the Prison releases about 15 women each week and the goal is to collect enough tampons and pads so each woman leaving will have a small supply to take with them.
The donation drive officially ends Monday (Feb. 21, 2022).
Some of the places Magdalene feminine product donation boxes can be found in Pierre and Fort Pierre include: Avera St. Mary’s facilities, Andrea Royer Studio, Beck Motors, Oahe Federal Credit Union, St. John’s Catholic Church, Rustic River Boutique, Pure Bliss, Branding Iron Bistro, Beautifully & Wonderfully Made Yoga Center, Miracle Mile Laundry, A Cut in Style, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, The Paint Store Too, Oahe Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Pierre, and SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
