JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Players have rejected Major League Baseball’s “best and final offer” to end the sport’s lockout before the league’s deadline to avoid canceled games. UPDATE MARCH 1, 2022:
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Major League Baseball gave itself and the players’ association six hours to salvage opening day. After a marathon of 13 bargaining sessions over 16 1/2 hours produced progress toward a labor deal but left the sides still far apart, MLB extended its deadline to Tuesday at 5 p.m. The sides planned to resume talks at 11 a.m. on the ninth straight day of bargaining. Commissioner Rob Manfred had said Monday was the last possible day to reach an agreement that would allow the minimum time needed for spring training in order to play openers as scheduled on March 31.
FEBRUARY 28, 2022:
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Major League Baseball negotiations to end the lockout are extending to the limit. Management says a deal must be reached by the end of Monday’s (Feb. 28, 2022) negotiations to salvage a March 31, 2022, start to the regular season and a 162-game schedule. With that in mind, the sides are scheduled to meet starting at 10 a.m., three hours earlier than usual. This will be the eighth straight day of talks at Roger Dean Stadium, the vacant spring training home of the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals. The lockout is in its 89th day.
