A minimum-security state prison inmate placed on escape status earlier this week is back in custody.
Inmate Silas Cavanaugh was apprehended in Sioux Falls March 9, 2022. He walked away from the Sioux Falls Community Work Center March 7.

A minimum-security state prison inmate has been placed on escape status.
Inmate Silas Cavanaugh walked away from the Sioux Falls Community Work Center overnight (March 7, 2022).
Cavanaugh, age 27, is a Native American male. He is 6-foot tall and weighs approximately 210 pounds.
Cavanaugh is serving a sentence of 5 years with 3 years suspended for grand theft from Brule County.
If you see Cavanaugh, contact law enforcement immediately.
Leaving a non-secure correctional facility without authorization constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
