A 40 year old woman from Eagle Butte convicted of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance has been sentenced by a federal U.S. District Court judge.
Frances Sioux Montero must spend seven months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, pay a fine in the amount of $1,000, and pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on May 12, 2021, in Eagle Butte. Montero knowingly and intentionally possessed methamphetamine with intent to distribute the drug.
This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Montero was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
