Aaron “Sonnee” LaRue Turning Heart II aka (Lil Was’na) Hoksila Wambli (Eagle Boy) was born to Aaron Sr. and Gladys (Dog Eagle) Turning Heart on August 13, 1968, at IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Sonnee grew up in the Bear Creek Community, also stayed with his grandparents (late) Dennis and (late) Rosalie (Counting) Dog Eagle who helped raise him, when they passed on his big brother Jeff Turning Heart and Aunt Mona Hill also raised him. He loved to stay at his grandparents’ and later in life he moved to Eagle Butte until he made his journey to Star Nation.
Sonnee attended school at Cheyenne Eagle Butte and graduated in 1987, he was on the National Honor Society, it was one of his greatest accomplishments. While in school, he played basketball and he joined track and cross country, Sonnee and his brothers were known as “The Turning Heart Boys” all the brothers were unbeatable.
In 1994, Aaron started working for the Walter Miner Law Enforcement Center. He was the lead detention officer and during this time, he received the “Employee of the Year” award in 2004.
Sonnee loved to spend time with family and friends, he was the rock of the family, he always made sur his family had everything. He loved to cook, he loved to hunt and visit his buddies. Sonnee helped everyone, “he would give you his last and not tell you”.
On January 26, 2001, he married Jessica LeBeau, they welcomed daughters, Jaymalee Lynsey and son, Jordan Brooklyn along with their big sister, Jamalia, Mindy, and big brother, Eric.
In 2011, they welcomed their baby boy, Aiden Aaron and in 2017, they welcomed their baby girl Skye Rhayne to their family.
Sonnee leaves behind his wife Jessica, daughters, Jaymalee, Skye, Jamalia, Mindy and sons, Jordan, Aiden and Eric, all of Eagle Butte, SD. His brothers, Jeff (Julie) Turning Heart, D’Aun Turning Heart and Jason Turning Heart and sister, Arlys (Dale) Bagola. Grandchildren, Raquel, Octavian, Xander, Aubree, Graylon, Kai’len and Nevyn Mendoza, nieces, Kayla, Shai, Traci, Sunni, Baby Erin (goddaughter), Abby and Erin LaBeau of New Jersey.
Sonnee is preceded in death by his parents, Aaron, Sr and Gladys Turning Heart, , his grandparents, Dennis and Rosalie Dog Eagle, brother, Juan Turning Heart, sisters, Sherri Turning Heart, Rosa Cook, Lucy One Feather and nephews, Brent, Chunky, Brandon Bagola and Stuart Turning Heart.
