Aaron Leroy Zimmerman,79, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on November 27, 2023, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 8 at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre with a visitation one hour prior to the services. For those unable to attend the services it will be live streamed on this page the day of the service.
Born in Glen Ullin, North Dakota on February 2, 1944, to John and Olga (Koepplin) Zimmerman. Aaron attended school and grew up in Hebron, ND from kindergarten through 12th grade. He furthered his education at Capital Commercial College in Bismarck, ND, where he earned a Bachelor of Business.
He married Joyce Buckley on April 10, 1965 in Mandan ND. He worked in sales and was a manager of Bostwicks clothing which brought them to Pierre where they made their home and raised their family. After Bostwicks closed he later worked as a furniture salesman at Furniture Barn and Slumberland in Pierre.
He loved spending time with his family and often spoke proudly of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid bowler, serving as the USBC Secretary for many years, and enjoyed hunting, fishing (although he never ate fish), and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. A lover of western and action movies, Aaron was also a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Board of Elders at Faith Lutheran Church, and a committed Kiwanis member. He enjoyed playing cards and dice games and was known among friends and family as a master of rummage sales. He was also an avid coin and currency collector.
In his later years, Aaron enjoyed watching rodeos, particularly bull riding. He also found joy in tending to his flowers and plants, his family and friends will remember him for his loving nature, his unwavering faith, and love for his family.
Aaron is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Marie (Buckley) Zimmerman of Pierre, SD, and their children: Beverly of Bloomington, MN, Kevin of Rapid City, SD, Kim and Dan McRae of Black Hawk, SD, and Erin Marie ‘ErBear’ and Brad Like of Pierre, SD, also survived by his six grandchildren; Cody, Taylor, Emalee, Jeremy, Hydee and Jesalyn and his sister, Norma Hirning of Dickinson, ND.
Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olga (Koepplin) Zimmerman, and his son, Kelly James Zimmerman.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all of his dialysis nurses as well as to all the doctors, nurses, specialists and surgeons that have helped dad over the past several years.
