Allan A. Gab, 98, Bowdle, died Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 19, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hosmer, SD, led by Pastor David Peterson. Interment follows at Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer. Pianist will be Allan’s great grandson, Cameron Gauger, and the congregation will sing “Blessed Assurance”, “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagle’s Wings”, and “A Mighty Fortress is our God”. Ushers will be David Eisenbeisz and Delbert Gienger.
Allan’s funeral will be livestreamed on the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page and will be available Sunday night at this website.
Funeral Home visitation begins 5:00 PM Thursday with a 6:00 PM prayer service.
Allan Albert Gab, son of Katie (Stotz) and Jacob Gab, was born four miles SW of Hillsview, SD on October 30, 1923. He was brought up on the farm, attended rural school through eighth grade, Bowdle High School for two years, and Eureka High School, Class of 1942. He then farmed with his dad. Allan married Winnie Goehring at Hosmer on June 20, 1948. They settled on a farm nine miles west of Hosmer. This is where Allan lived until January 2020, when he relocated to the Bowdle Nursing Home. Allan retired from farming in 1986 and then spent 20 years as a rural mail carrier, retiring in 2006. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years and served on the council. He was an avid reader and briefly took up downhill skiing at age 72.
Allan is survived by five sons—Rex (Marjean) Gab of Bowdle, Craig (Polly) Gab of Eureka, SD, Brian (Margie) Gab of Sausalito, CA; Blair Gab of Henderson, CO; and Kurt Gab of Brentford, SD; one daughter—Beverly (Scot) Fisher of Renton, WA; one brother, Victor (Lila) Gab of Eureka; one sister, Lillian (Karl) Bareither of San Luis Obispo, CA; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
Allan was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie, on November 28, 2009; his father, Jacob, on May 5, 1971; his mother, Katie, on August 2, 1995; and three sisters—Lenore Charell, Norma Job, and Ramona Gab.
Honorary bearers will be all of Allan’s grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the Bowdle Nursing Home staff.
Casketbearers will be Weston Gauger of Mitchell, SD; Christopher Gab of Shawnee, KS; Jared Gab of Lawrence, KS; Mackenzie Gauger of Sioux Falls, SD; Wylie Gab of Brooklyn, NY; and Liam Gab of San Diego, CA.
Services are in care of Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.
