Funeral Service for Alphonso Garreau age 85 of Dupree, SD will be at 11 AM, MT on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte, SD. Fr. John Paul will be officiating. Burial will be in Mossman Cemetery Ridgeview, SD. under direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Alphonso entered the Spirit World on October 27, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canistota, McCook, SD.
lphonso Vine Garreau 85 yrs, of Red Scaffold, SD passed away on 10/27/2020 of natural causes at Good Samaritan Resthome in Canasito, SD. Alphonso was born 8/11/1935 at Old Agency along the Missouri River to Gilbert and Delphine (Henessy).
Alphonso served in the Marines, unfortunately records of his service were destroyed in a fire.
Alphonso married Betty Widow. They built their home in Red Scaffold, South Dakota. He loved his home and planted many flowers and trees. The HollyHocks he planted are still there. Betty and Alphonso grew productive gardens and sold their vegetables in Dupree and surrounding areas. They would proudly show their vegetables at the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Pow Wow/Labor Day Fair.
Alphonso was a self taught mechanic and loved working on cars. He worked on various Ranches and at theTakini school. Although Alphonso and Betty never had children of their own they would always decorate the big tree in front of their house every Christmas for the kids.
When the tribe went to Montana to hunt Elk Alphonso went too. He loved fishing and hunting on his land
Alphonso was a very kind and caring soul. He would take in abandoned dogs and cats. He was loved by many.
Alphonso is predeceased by his wife, Betty (Widow} Garreau, parents Gilbert Garreau, mother Delphine (Hennessy) and his twin Alphonsine Garreau Simpson, and other family members.
Alphonso came from a large family,
Brothers:: Melvin Garreau, Manson Garreau, Harold Lee, Romey Garreau, Gibson Garreau, Tracy Garreau, Gilbert Garreau Jr., Frank Garreau.
Sisters: Verna (Garreau) LeCompte, Alphonsine (Garreau) Simpson, Shirley (Garreau) Christenson, Faye (Walters) Ismail, Malinda (Walters) Means, Margaret (Garreau) McElmore, Arlene,Garreau, Barbara Garreau. Many Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, too many to list.
Pallbearers are, Chug Garreau, Guy Thompson, Sidney Garreau, Allen (Bubba) Garreau, Anthony Padilla and Eli Padill
