Funeral services for Alvin Reuer will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8th, 2021 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain, South Dakota.
Alvin A. Reuer, 96, passed away at the Sanford Chamberlain Care Center on February 1, 2021.
Alvin was born September 15, 1924 to Gottlieb and Martha (Wagaman) Reuer in Reliance, South Dakota. Alvin attended Black Dog School north of Reliance and attended Reliance High School to the tenth grade. He worked on his parents’ ranch north of Reliance, SD.
He married Elva Jean Nash on June 1, 1949. To this union four children were born: Leroy Reuer, Jelene (Rick Rand), Marlys (Cordie Schlomer) and Kathy Reuer. He was a member of the Black Dog School District Board until he moved his family to a ranch south of Chamberlain, South Dakota.
He loved farming, hunting, and trapping coyotes. He was one of the first to have a commercial goose hunting operation in South Dakota for many years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Chamberlain, South Dakota.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, daughter Marlys (Cordie) Schlomer of Presho, South Dakota, eight grandchildren Matt Reuer, Dan Reuer, Eric Reuer, Becky Hanson, Brittnie Ainsworth, Jamie Griffith, Stacie Totzke, Abby Bacon, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Richard, a son, two daughters, a grandson, and a great-grandson in infancy.
