PIERRE, SD –
Amy Louise Hertel, 55, of Pierre, SD, died on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD. Memorial mass will be at 10:30am on Monday, January 6, 2024 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Pierre.
In the small town of Pierre was born Amy Louise,
Her journey of life was not one of peace and ease.
A woman of faith, with a heart so grand,
She walked through the world with a creative hand.
On a November’s day back in sixty-nine,
Amy greeted the world, her future to design.
Through the years, her optimism never swayed,
A life full of joy and love she had made.
Education she sought in Miller and then to college,
Filling her mind with practical knowledge.
As an Administrative Assistant, Amy found her role,
In the workplace she thrived, she was on a roll.
Her life was a tapestry, woven with care,
With Lance, her dear husband, a life they did share.
Megan Meier, her daughter, was her pride and her heart,
And Morgan with Austin, who played their own part.
Then came Forrie, a grandson so dear,
Amy’s legacy of love, forever to cheer.
Through the years, her family tree did grow,
With roots of affection, and a warm, gentle glow.
Amy loved to craft and to have fun,
Her laughter was contagious, bright as the sun.
At the cabin, she’d be, with a smile so wide,
Spreading joy to all, with her arms open wide.
But as the year twenty-four drew to an end,
Amy’s time on this earth did gently suspend.
In Monument Health, Rapid City’s own crest,
She took her last breath, and then she did rest.
On New Year’s Eve, sepsis took her away,
But her spirit and memories eternally stay.
A faith-filled soul who was always creative,
In the hearts of her loved ones, she’ll always be native.
So let’s celebrate Amy, who lived with such zest,
Her life was a journey, beautifully expressed.
For in every moment, she made us believe,
That love’s the true fabric we all interweave.
Amy is survived by her husband Lance, her two daughters Megan Meier of Miller, SD, and Morgan (Austin) Weyers of Hay Springs, NE, one grandson Forrie Weyers and her dog Woody. She is also survived by her dad Allen Hanson of Ree Heights, brother Rick (Cindy) Hanson, sister Deb (Rob) Litzen, her mother-in-law Deanne Hertel and her nieces and nephews.
Amy was preceded in death by her mother Dot Hanson and her father-in-law Cliff Hertel.
