Funeral services for Amy M. Thompson, 43, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Diamond Willow Ministries in Fort Thompson, SD with burial in the Christ Episcopal Cemetery at Fort Thompson, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule and 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Diamond Willow Ministries in Fort Thompson, SD.
Amy Marie Thompson was born on July 9, 1978 in Chamberlain, SD to Vincent Thompson Sr and Cheryl Johnson-Shields. Amy grew up in Fort Thompson where she attended Headstart, Kindergarten, and 1st grade. She then attended St. Joseph’s Indian School 2nd grade through 8th grade. She finished her high school years at Flandreau Indian School graduating in 1996. Amy held various jobs throughout her life. She was most recently employed at the Lower Brule Community Center and the Golden Buffalo Casino. She was a very dedicated and diligent worker.
Amy was blessed with five beautiful children, Trent and Lashawn, Treyton, Aleeya and Terry. Amy was a very beautiful person and soul. She watched out for everyone and touched many lives. She was never afraid to speak her mind. She always stated “I can hold my own!” She loved to have a good time with her friends and family making memories. For this we are truly blessed and thankful.
Amy had a very special Deksi (Uncle), Dale Thompson whom she respected and loved from the depths of her heart. She cherished his kindness, compassion and words of wisdom. She loved spending time with Deksi Dale and Aunt Doreen.
Amy journeyed to the Wicahpi Oyate at the age of 43 in Lower Brule, SD. Gratefully sharing her life are her parents, Vincent Thompson, Sr., and Cheryl Johnson-Shields, her brothers: Vincent Thompson Jr., Tanner, RJ Shields (Ft. Thompson, SD), Ronnie (Glendate, AZ), and Jon Pourier (Kingman, AZ). Sisters: Barb (Tama, IA), Bridgette, Rochelle, Leatha (Ft. Thompson, SD), Brooke, Autumn and Sheranda Shields (Ft. Thompson, SD), the twins Sammi and Sara (Pierre, SD), Anna (Lower Brule, SD), Vallie (Rapid City, SD), Tara (Sioux Falls, SD).
Preceding her in death were her sisters: Dana Keckler and Cindy Thompson. Her paternal great grandparents: Ben & Ruth Walton Thompson, her maternal great grandparents Silas and Isabel Medicine Crow-Johnson, paternal grandparents Ben Thompson & Cissy LaRoche, maternal grandparents Horace and Alvina Johnson-Slow, beloved nephew Jacob Taylor Shields and beloved niece Jaylayla Rose Hawk.
