Memorial services for Angie Marin, 70, of Akaska will be at 11 AM Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Selby Methodist Church. A memorial visitation will start at 5 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be at the Selby Memorial Gardens. Angie passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at her home in Akaska. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Angela (Angie) Denise Marin was born May 26, 1954, in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to Modeste and Marion Lavona Marin. She attended Akaska Elementary School and Selby High School. Angie graduated Selby High School in 1972. Angie was a very talented vocalist and pianist, and during high school being recognized as one of two outstanding vocal students chosen to travel to Washington DC to sing with the National Group of Outstanding Vocalist for President Nixon at the White House. Following, the group was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall and on to various countries in Europe, performance for the Queen of England in London, Venice and the Vatican in Rome.
Following High School Angie attended Northern State College, Stewart’s School of Hair Styling, Aberdeen, SD and in 1985 attended Interstate Business College in Bismarck, ND. Angie’s love for cooking eventually procured her a position as Sous Chef in Arivaca, AZ where she worked her way up to Executive Chef until opening her own BBQ Restaurant which she operated for several years.
In 1995, Angie returned home and became the 4th generation on the Marin Homestead to fulfill her dream working with her father until opening and operating her bed and breakfast which later became the first hunting/fishing lodge in the Akaska/Selby area known as the Prairie Pillow Sportsmen Lodge. Angie was extremely proud when the Prairie Pillow was featured in ‘Outdoor World” in 2011. This was a very special time for Angie doing what she loved most – hunting, fishing, cooking, making life-time friendships with many of her clients and working side-by-side with her very special nephews, Matthew & Brian and her loving niece Haley. Angie operated the Prairie Pillow until leasing the lodge.
In 2014, Angie was introduced to doTERRA and her passion for helping people was unrivaled during this journey. Her travels with doTERRA took her to many states in the US, as well as earning her a trip to Prague in 2019. No matter where Angie traveled, she always made friends and was truly loved by many.
Angie moved from the family farm to Akaska in 2023. A big move for her, but being a loyal employee, Angie embraced the opportunity to be near her work in the Akaska area during the unpredictable winter months. At the time of her death, she was employed by the ATBS in Akaska.
Angie is survived by her father, Modeste Marin and one sister, Suzanne Kirschman (Dewayne) of Selby; her nephews Matthew Kirschman of Brookings and Brian Kirschman (Brooke) of Selby; and one niece, Haley Ruppanner (Theo) of Dalhart, TX; foreign exchange sister Inge Nadhazi (Peter) & family of Denmark; her dearest friend Brenda Shippen; her cousins, extended family, many friends and her fur baby Simba.
Angie was preceded in death by her mother, Marion Lavona Marin, one brother Stanley Earl, maternal grandparents Nettie & Otho Turner and paternal grandparents Warner Earl & Olga Marin.
