PIERRE, SD – Anita Mary Fahey, born on December 18, 1960, in Mitchell, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Pierre, South Dakota, at the age of 64.
Memorial visitation will be on Friday, October 24th from 5:00pm until 6:00pm, a time of sharing will begin at 6:00pm, and a prayer service and rosary will begin at 7:00pm. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 10:00am at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Pierre.
Anita was one of twelve children and spent her formative years in Estelline, South Dakota. After completing high school, she pursued further education at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, South Dakota. She moved to Pierre, South Dakota and soon after met Jim Fahey. They were married in October 13, 1984 in Pierre. Together they raised their three sons; Kevin, Tyler and Jared. Anita’s dedication and hard work led her to a 45-year career at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital. She began at the original St. Mary’s Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. She held various positions, completing her career as an Executive Assistant for ASM Administration.
Anita loved to travel and visit family and friends. She rarely missed a family event, an opportunity to shop with her sisters and her lifelong friends or to enjoy a casino. Anita enjoyed hunting and fishing stock dams.
Anita’s life was marked by her devotion to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Fahey, their three sons: Kevin, Tyler, and Jared Fahey and two grandchildren: Keegan and Aliciana. Anita’s warmth and kindness will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She is also survived by her 11 siblings: Kay (Gary) Shafer, Sandy (Wayne) Jefferis, Dennis (Linda) Hemmer, Darwin (Sharon) Hemmer, Ron (Laurie) Hemmer, Marlene (Gerry Bunker) Mennenga, Michele (Dennis) Linneman, Bruce (Denise) Hemmer, Warren (Debbie) Hemmer, Jim (Laurie) Hemmer and JoAnn Walraven, five sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anita was preceded in death by her infant son Ryan, her parents, mother-in-law, father-in law, five brothers-in-law, a niece Carrie and a nephew Johnny.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be designated to the Avera Foundation Helmsley Center Oncology.
