Funeral services for Annette Dee Red Tomahawk, age 52 of Porcupine and Selfridge, ND, will be at 11:00am CT on Saturday April 9th, 2022, at the Assembly of God Church in Selfridge, ND. There will be a meal immediately following the service, then a procession to the Culbertson Family Cemetery for burial. Wake services will be at 7:00 pm CT Friday April 8 at the Assembly of God Church in Selfridge, ND. Annette passed away on April 4, 2022 at Vibra Hospital in Mandan, ND. Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge is entrusted with the services.
Annette D. Red Tomahawk was born in Fort Yates, ND, on September 30, 1969 to Kenneth Loves War and Sylvia Culbertson. The eldest of her Brother, Fred and Sister, Cynthia, she grew up around the Selfridge, Porcupine and Fort Yates areas. She later gained 3 more siblings, Thomas Carry Moccasin, James Carry Moccasin, Jr., and Josephine Carry Moccasin. She attended school in Fort Yates, ND until 8th grade, then moved to Macy, Nebraska with her cousin, Karen Culbertson, working odd jobs around Macy.
In Macy, Nebraska, she met Yancy Harlan Morris and the two were married. Together they had 4 children; Maurice Morris, Yancy Morris, Jr., Roberta “Tanna” Morris, and Cody Morris, as well as helping to raise Yancy’s children; Kennedy (Sioux City IA) and Lana (Sioux City, IA). Annette worked at the Winnebago Tribe, Native Star Casino close to Macy, NE until 2006, when sadly, Yancy passed away. Annette and her children moved back to the Selfridge area, where she obtained her GED at United Tribes Technical College. She then worked at the Elderly Nutrition Program as a clerk.
In the next few years, she met and Married Gordon Red Tomahawk. Gordon was her best friend and the love of her life. In 2011, their daughter, Sylvi-Annah was born. Gordon and Annette only had a few short years together, as Gordon passed away in June of 2013.
Annette enjoyed cooking and baking, scouting out rummage sales (wherever she could find one!) and penny gaming at the casino. She was active in the Episcopal Church, and frequently baked treats for the children. Annette was a happy-go-lucky spirit, loved to crack a joke and was fondly remembered for her laugh, her good natured sense of humor and her smile.
In early 2021, Annette started to battle illness and frequented in and out of the hospital with many ailments. She lost this battle on April 4, 2022 at Vibra Hospital in Mandan, ND.
She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Culbertson, brother, Fred Sitting Dog, sister Josephine Carry Moccasin(Selfridge, ND), her children, Maurice Morris (Fort Yates), Yancy Morris, Jr. ( Nebraska), Roberta “Tanna” Morris (Nebraska), Cody Morris(Sioux City, IA) Sylvi-Annah Red Tomahawk.
She was preceded in death by father: Kenneth Loves War, first husband: Yancy Morris, second husband: Gordon Red Tomahawk, step-father: James Carry Moccasin, Grandparents: Vine and Isabel (Standing Crow) Loves War, Albert and Caroline (Shoots the Enemy) Culbertson, siblings: Thomas Carry Moccasin, James Luke Carry Moccasin, Jr., aunt Cynthia Sitting Dog
