Funeral Services for Anthony Holy Bear will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 9:00 am at the Eagle Butte Bingo Hall. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Thursday at the Bingo Hall with a prayer service at 6:00 pm. Interment under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home will be held at 2:30 pm, Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis with military honors by the American Legion Post 308 and the Cheyenne River Veterans Association.
Anthony passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 in Eagle Butte.
Anthony Ford Holy Bear was born February 27, 1957, at Old Cheyenne Agency to Joseph “Sandy” Holy Bear Sr. and Emmaline (Swimmer) Rock. He graduated from Eagle Butte High School. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he worked as a ranch hand for Robert “Bob” Berndt and various other jobs. Anthony enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews participate in sporting events, enjoyed listening to the radio and spending time with his family and friends.
Anthony is survived by his sisters, Melissa (Leland) LeBeau and Norma Holy Bear; brother, Joseph Holy Bear Jr., sister in law, Constance Holy Bear; nieces, “special niece” Jessica (Aaron) Turning Heart and family, Callie (Marcus) Benson and family, Lacey and (DJ) Knight and Family Anna Rousseau and family; nephews, Jayme LeBeau and family, Claymore (Ashley) LeBeau, Lee LeBeau and Colton; many great nieces and nephews of who he called his grandchildren his Thakoza’s and special great niece “Skye” Turning Heart.
Anthony is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emmaline, his aunts and uncles, Darlene and Matthew Bear Eagle, Agatha and Harry Traversie, sisters, Amy Holy Bear-Lee, Rose Ann Holy Bear and Jackie Holy Bear, brothers, Francis Holy Bear, Henry Holy Bear, Albert Holy Bear and Richard Allen Carpenter, and grandson Cooper Harry LeBeau.
