PIERRE, SD – Athellen Westerman, 74, of Pierre, SD, died on Monday, July 28, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre, with visitation for one hour prior. Graveside services will be at 2:00pm at the Midland Cemetery in Midland, SD.

Athellen was born on June 21, 1951 to Bob and Dorothy (Dennis) Seidler. She grew up on the family farm by Midland, SD. She attended the Pheobe Country School and graduated from Midland High School. After high school she lived in Sioux Falls and Chamberlain before moving back home to Midland. She spend these years raising her son Allen Gibbs, babysitting, working at the library and supervising school recess.

Athellen moved to Pierre and began working as a CNA at Maryhouse for many years before her retirement. She married Larry Westerman in 2000.

Athellen was an avid reader, she also enjoyed card games, cookouts and potlucks with friends and family. She enjoyed attending rodeos and watching NASCAR and Yellowstone. She could often be found visiting with people and attending the senior center. Athellen looked forward to her nightly phone conversations with her son about daily things and hearing how his dog Casper was doing.

Athellen is survived by her son Allen and his wife Tammy; grandson Marcus and his wife Sarah and their daughter Annabelle Nguyen; granddaughter Mikayla Rollness (Pierre Munoz) and her children Eric Lenoir, Emilio Lenoir, Maleena Lenoir, Santino Munoz and Camilla Munoz. She is also survived by her sister Phyllis (Marshall) Lindgren. Athellen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Larry.
