PIERRE, SD – Barbara Rae Van Winsen-Morgan was born on August 20, 1955, in Pierre, South Dakota. Barbara’s journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.
Growing up in the close-knit community of Fairbank, South Dakota, Barbara shared her childhood with her three brothers, Bob, Brad, and Brett, and a lively group of cousins. Together, they filled the halls of their one-room schoolhouse with laughter and learning, forging bonds that would last a lifetime. Barbara’s early years were a testament to the simple pleasures of rural life and the value of family.
Barbara’s industrious nature led her to a dedicated service of eight years at the Town and Country Cafe in Pierre, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many. Her journey then took her to the scenic landscapes of Oregon, where she contributed her talents to the East Oregonian Newspaper for two decades. Barbara’s work ethic and commitment to her community were evident in every task she undertook.
In 2009, the call of family led Barbara to Arkansas, where she was able to cherish precious moments with her daughter and grandchildren. There, she continued to showcase her dedication to hard work at the Remington Ammunition plant for approximately 11 years. Barbara’s love for her family was her guiding light, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and milestones.
Barbara’s heart was as vast as the open skies of her South Dakota home, and she extended her love to all creatures, great and small. Her affection for animals, especially her cherished cats, was matched only by her passion for classical music.
A lifelong advocate for the underrepresented, Barbara was an Honorary member of the Special Olympics, St. Joe’s Indian School, and Boys Town. Her support for our troops was unwavering, and she poured her energy into creating events that celebrated their bravery and sacrifice. Barbara’s altruistic nature was a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
Barbara’s legacy is carried on by her beloved daughter, Jeanettee Parton (Anthony), of Lonoke, Arkansas. Her life was further enriched by the joy of her grandsons, Llewellyn Hunter of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Jacob Hunter of Lonoke, Arkansas, as well as her granddaughter, Rosie Garringer of North Little Rock. Barbara was blessed to witness the blossoming of her three great-grandchildren: Maxson, Remington, and Grace, whose youthful exuberance brought her immeasurable happiness.
She is also survived by her devoted brothers, Bob (Christy) Van Winsen, Brad (Debbie) Van Winsen, and Brett (Jamie) Van Winsen, who, along with a host of friends, will forever cherish the memories of Barbara’s generous spirit and infectious laughter.
