Belva Hawkinson, 85, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor David Otten officiating. Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation will be two-hours prior to the service. All are welcome to attend but for those that are unable to attend, a live broadcast of the service will be available. For those that are able to attend, the wearing of masks will be required.
Belva D. Titze was born January 28, 1935 at Gettysburg, SD to Bernard and Lottie (Paulson) Titze. She attended rural country school.
Belva went to work for the Sale Barn Café. While working there she met the love of her life, Howard Hawkinson. They were married June 29, 1958 at Christ Lutheran Church in Lebanon. They made their home in Gettysburg, welcoming their first born in 1960. Belva became a fulltime mom with three more children following shortly after, leaving Belva’s hands and heart full.
Belva enjoyed baking, collecting teapots from her aunts, gardening, working in her flower beds, crocheting, drinking tea, playing bingo, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Belva’s life will be cherished by her children: Carl (Christine), Gettysburg, Della (Bruce) Schumacher, Gettysburg, Lyle (Holly), Brookings and Julie (Lonnie) Pederson, Oracle, AZ; eight grandchildren: Dana (Philip) Rush, Skot Schumacher, Beth and Ben Hawkinson, Brooke (Dan) Lusk, Anne Hillestad, Josiah and Jacob Severson; seven great grandchildren; brother, Delmar (Marilyn) Titze, Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law: Oleatha Goeke, Jefferson, GA and Virginia Hawkinson, Bowdle; and brother-in-law, Jerry Hawkinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard (2009), parents; brothers-in-law, Robert Goeke, Robert Hawkinson, Larry Hawkinson, and Kenneth Armstrong; sisters-in-law: Pearl Armstrong and Lauris Hawkinson.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Belva’s arrangements.
