She may have lived mostly in the North, but Bobbie Lee Fischer loved her Southern heritage and was proud to be a Southern lady. She was born on January 19, 1929 in Booneville, MS, to Elton and Lillian (Smith) Searcy. She grew up there with one brother, Hubert and one sister, Freddie. She married Harce Fisk and to this union was born a daughter, Sharon. After spending a short time in California, Bobbie returned to Coffeeville, MS, with Sharon where she met and married Melvin Brewer, Sr., in 1955. They had two sons, Mel Jr., and Sam.
The family moved to Mobridge, SD, in 1964 to build a business in the fishing industry. Bobbie’s marriage to Brewer ended, but she found happiness with Donald James “Jim” Fischer in 1978. They were married until he died unexpectedly in 2001. Bobbie was also married briefly to Melvin Mindt. She lived in Mobridge for the majority of her life.
Bobbie was well known for her ability to grow flowers and vegetables. She had a passion for roses. She also was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes and making quilts. Bobbie made her career at the care center in Mobridge, dedicating over 25 years as a CNA and trainer of new staff. Many former employees speak highly of her training and enjoyed working with her.
When she needed care herself, Bobbie entered the center in Mobridge in 2014. When the facility closed its doors, she relocated to one in Rapid City. Bobbie died peacefully on March 6, 2021 at age 92.
She is survived by her sister, Freddie of Denham Springs, LA, daughter Sharon (John) Calvert of Tribbey, OK, sons Mel (Kim) of Mobridge and Sam (Melody) of Rapid City; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild on the way, and her dog, Biscuit.
As Bobbie wished, a private family service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest beside Jim at Greenwood Cemetery.
Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
