Bonnie Libner | August 3, 1947 - July 3, 2022

Bonnie Libner passed away on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital. A memorial visitation, with family present, will be held from 5:00-6:00pm on Thursday, July 7th at Isburg Funeral Chapel. A time of sharing will begin at 6:00pm. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 8th at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre.

Bonnita Eldora Kilber was born August 29, 1947 in Hazen, ND to Eldor & Ruth (Rogers) Kilber. Bonnie spent time on the farm outside of Stanton, ND and Great Falls, MT and moved to Fort Pierre in 1957 when her dad worked on the Oahe Dam. Bonnie moved to Parshall, ND in 1962 and graduated from Parshall High School in 1965.

Bonnie married Dennis Hughes on June 8, 1968 and to that union was blessed with two children, Denise and Danny. After Dennis’ death in 1977, Bonnie and the kids moved from Colorado back to Ft. Pierre, SD. Bonnie found true love again and married Merle Libner on December 29, 1983. Bonnie was happy to become stepmom to Merle’s daughter, Bridget. Merle & Bonnie enjoyed taking the kids camping at the Oahe Dam and in Minnesota where they vacationed at Valley Fair. They also took a family vacation to Disneyland where many memories were made.

Bonnie started working at the Stanley County School District in 1981 where she retired from in 2014. Many of the elementary kids loved Bonnie and would seek her out during their lunch and they often delivered special gifts to her home for Valentine’s Day and always stopped by for Halloween. Bonnie bought many girl scout cookies, boy scout popcorn or other fundraiser items from every one of those kids that stopped by. She was known to quiet a lunchroom with one raise of the voice but cherished all of the kids she watched grow up in Stanley County.

Bonnie loved spending time with her family. She loved her family more than anything else in the world and never left or hung up the phone without saying I Love You and she meant it. She never missed one of Danny’s basketball games or one of Denise’s softball games. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. One highlight was attending Kyle’s state football championship last November. Bonnie also enjoyed attending her high school reunions and was so looking forward to their 57th in August this year.

Blessed to have shared her life are her husband, Merle of Ft. Pierre, SD; children Denise (Keith) Albertson of Pierre, SD, Danny (Bobbie) Hughes of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Kyle & Jordan Albertson, Kevin, Kayla, Delaney, Hayden & Harper Hughes and Jake Miller along with her great grandchildren Camden & Cooper Hughes and Brevin Miller, brother Ron (Colleen) Kilber of Gilbert, AZ, sisters Bernie Jorgenson of Parshall, ND, Patricia Miller of Pierre, SD & Pam (Jeff) Metzinger of Pierre, SD, her Uncle Vance (Clara) Rogers of Bismarck, ND and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Bonnie was preceeded in death by her parents, Eldor & Ruth Kilber, Floyd & Helen Libner, stepdaughter Bridget Miller, grandson Christian Albertson, her first husband Dennis Hughes, and several other loved ones.
