Funeral services for Charles C. Houska, 92, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery at Pukwana, SD. Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary/Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain, SD.
Charles was born in Kimball SD on August, 22, 1929 to Lee and Eunice (LaVoy) Houska. He moved with his parents to Pukwana in 1933. He attended Pukwana Public Schools for 12 years, graduating in 1947. He was a proud Pukwana Wildcat Alumni.
He went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad in July 1945 at 15 years of age and was employed by them until 1982. He was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad from 1982 until 1991 when he retired. He worked at 15 different locations. Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota during his 46 year career.
He served in the U.S. Army from August 1951 until October 1953 as a Lt. in the Transportation Corp.
He was married to Mary Ann Byrd of Murdo on Sept. 3rd 1954. To this union of marriage, five children were born.
They lived in Murdo, Marion, Presho, Chamberlain, Hettinger ND, and retiring back to Chamberlain in 1993.
Charles passed away on November 19, 2021 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three sisters and an infant daughter, Diedre Christine.
He is survived by a son, Steven (Kathy) of Shepherd MT, a daughter Susan of Billings MT, a daughter Sally (Ron) Madison of Chamberlain, and a son David (Sue) of Dell Rapids SD; 15 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews. All of whom he loved!!
