Charles Dewayne “Chuck” Sterling, 86, of Fort Pierre, passed away at his home on December 15, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, December 20, 2021 at Feigum Funeral Home with visitation prior from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. For those unable to attend in person, Chuck’s service will be also be broadcast live at www.feigumfh.com
Charles was born in 1935 to Charles Eugene and Beula Hester (Williams) Sterling in Xenia, Kansas. He attended school in Kansas and Texas, graduating from Carney High School in 1953. Charles moved to Pierre, South Dakota in 1956. There he met Carolyn Elaine Williams who he later married at the First United Methodist Church on August 30, 1957. Throughout his life Charles worked a variety of jobs, including those with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Friman’s Oil & Gas and farming with Leon and Rex Haskins. In his free time Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching rodeo and being with his children, grand children, and great grand children.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his daughter Karen Sterling, daughter-in-law Patricia Sterling, sister Judy Row, brother Tony (Robin) Sterling, sister-in-law Joan Sterling, brother-in-law Dan Hoffer, eight grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Sterling, son John C. Sterling, brother Paul Sterling and his wife Joyce, brother Stanley Sterling, brother-in-law James Williams, brother-in-law Robert Williams and his wife Sharon, sister-in-law Gwen Hoffer, and great granddaughter Allie Jo Luhman.
