Christine Helene Dutt was born April 12, 1948, in Bebra, Germany to Milton Dutt and Hertha Neumann. She and her parents came to the United States, arriving by train to Selby, SD. Chris grew up in South Dakota, moving often to where her father found work. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1966.
Chris met the love of her life, John R. Wilson, while waiting tables in Watertown. They courted long distance and were married December 16, 1967. Their marriage led them to Minneapolis, Alexandria, Virginia, and eventually Gettysburg, SD in 1973, which was only supposed to be temporary while they looked for a home in Pierre.
Chris worked numerous jobs while living in Gettysburg. Her dream of being a nurse was fulfilled by becoming an EMT with the Gettysburg Ambulance and eventually a nurses’ aide at the hospital.
The best job she had was as a wife, mom, grandma, and most recently, great grandma. Cooking and baking were right up there as well. If you ever left her house hungry, it was your own fault. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, and sewing.
Chris’ life will be cherished by her husband, John; children: Teresa (Kevin) Kilian of Gettysburg and John H. (Melissa) Wilson of Berger, MO; grandchildren: Courtney (Carl) Van Aarde, Samantha and Shelby Kilian, Jacob (Kylie) Wilson, Allison Wilson, and Carson Kilian; great grandson, Archer Van Aarde; and her siblings: Anita (Fred) Wilson, Bob (Denise) Dutt, Marilyn (Arnie) Haan, and Eric Neumann (Joe Plante).
She was preceded in death by her parents: Milton and Hertha Dutt; parents-in-law: John and Betty Wilson; and numerous dogs that left paw prints on her heart.
Memorials in Chris’ honor may be directed to Keep Hope Local, 127 Hilltop Dr., Gettysburg, SD 57442.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Chris’ arrangements.
