Eureka, SD-Funeral Service for Cletis LeRoy Grenz, 86, of Eureka will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Eureka Baptist Church. Rev. Patrick Russell will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Calsenfh.com under Cletis’ obituary.
Private Family Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00-5:00 pm at the funeral home.
Cletis peaceably went to heaven at Eureka Health Care Center on October 30, 2021, with his family at his side.
Cletis LeRoy Grenz was born August 2, 1935, to John and Emma (Ackerman) Grenz. He attended the Grand School District #21 until the seventh grade. His family then moved to Ipswich, SD and lived there for a couple of years and moved to Eureka where he attended Eureka High School and graduated in 1953. Cletis gave his heart to the Lord Jesus in 1947 and was baptized in Herreid Baptist Church. After his graduation he went to work with his brother, Wilmer, for several months and then decided to join the United States Army in the fall of 1953. He did his basic training and Leadership School at Fort Ord in California. Cletis was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1955 he went to farm with his brother Wilmer. In 1959 he decided to move to California and got a job with the United States Post Office in Lodi after passing his Civil Service Exam. After many years with the post office Cletis became the Postmaster in Victor, CA. He retired in 1990 and returned to Eureka, SD.
He met and married Inez Svendsen in 1998 and they made their home in Eureka, SD. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, Fred Weller Post 186, and the VFW. Cletis had many activities that he enjoyed with his friends, such as golf, playing Hi/Lo Jack every day at 4pm at the American Legion, hunting with his nephews, and fishing. He was also involved in the Eureka Baptist Church for many years and served as a Trustee and was also on the Housing Committee.
Cletis is survived by his wife Inez, stepchildren: Scott (Krista) Svendsen, Steve (Robyn) Svendsen, and Tom (Wendy) Svendsen. Step grandchildren: Shariah Svendsen, Kiah Svendsen, Colton Svendsen and Cale Svendsen. Nieces and nephews: David (Judy) Grenz, Jim Buechler, Holly (Darrel) Grohs, Sherri (Dick) Kraft, Richard (Linda) Buechler, Larry Quenzer, Herb (Pat) Quenzer, Beverly (Bill) Halloway, Betty (Ernie) Dobler, Don (Bernie) Quenzer and John (Lucy Atwood) Grenz.
Casketbearers will be his great nephews, Ryan Grenz, Eric Grenz, Scott Bachmeier, Corey Bachmeier, AJ Buechler, Matthew Grohs, Mike Lauritsen and Mitchell Rufer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wilmer Grenz, sisters Florence Buechler and Irene Quenzer, two brothers and a sister in infancy, and two nephews .
