Cletus Sylvester Mulloy, 89, died December 5, 2021 with his family by his side in his home in Sioux Falls, SD.
Beloved and respected, Cletus enhanced countless lives throughout his full and well-lived life. Two principal pillars throughout his lifetime included a strong devotion to his Catholic faith and steadfast loyalty to his entire family. By example he showed us the importance of unconditional love and the unmeasurable yield of limitless generosity. Through his quick wit, light-hearted sense of humor, impeccable memory, and knack for storytelling, he captivated many and brought us countless hours of joy.
Until his last day Cletus remained a devoted and adoring husband who anticipated the reunion with the love of his life of 60 years, Madelyn. Their partnership set an example of cooperation, mutual admiration, and steadfast love. Together they settled in Mobridge, SD, where Cletus continued to work tirelessly to provide for their growing family. Undeterred by hard work, Cletus’ industriousness and entrepreneurial creativity culminated into Cletus Mulloy Incorporated (CMI), a successful contractor for the US Postal Service. After retiring, Cletus enjoyed walking, learning to quilt with Madelyn, “goin’ someplace,” and visiting with family. After Madelyn’s death in 2012 Cletus enjoyed camping and embarked on many adventures with his family and canine companions, Molly and Maggy. He filled his days with backyard bonfires, sewing projects, receiving the sacraments as an active parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and supporting local high school sports, particularly the MPHS Girls’ Volleyball team.
Cletus moved to Sioux Falls in 2018 to be closer to his family. He delighted in fostering a backyard purple martin colony, maintained his ardent love of high school sports, and continued his faith journey as a member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Cletus was preceded in death by his wife, Madelyn; his sons, Timothy Peter and Kevin Paul; his parents, Charles and Rose Mulloy; and his five siblings: Flavain, Delores, Yvonne, Silvin, and Charles. He is survived by his adoring family; Jon Pat and Mary Lisa (Brian) of Sioux Falls, SD; Cletus (Kara) of Lincoln, NE; and grandchildren: Cassie Green, Matthew Mulloy, Christopher and Mary Beth Borgstadt, Katrina Mulloy, Kate and Julia Mulloy, and Ryan Gandelman. Mourners of our patriarch also include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
