Clyde William Fanning was born August 25, 1930, on a farm southeast of St. Lawrence, to Joseph Clyde and Margaret (Volkers) Fanning. He graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1948. After high school he enlisted in the Army and served in the 101st Airborne.
On September 19, 1959, Clyde married Elizabeth (Betty) Weise, his true love. They made their home southeast of St. Lawrence on the family farm where they raised six kids. Farming was his passion, as he cared for his livestock throughout his life.
Clyde was a man who could visit with anyone. Let it be a friend, relative, or stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on the 4th of July, where there was much food and plenty of fireworks to go around. Hunting and fishing with his grandchildren have him a true sense of pleasure.
Clyde and Betty attended many auctions throughout their years together. You can tell this by the number of items their kids get to sort through.
Clyde is survived by two sons: Joe (Vicky) Fanning of Miller, and Chris (Leah) Fanning of Miller; two daughters: Jeanine (Mike) Hammill of Miller, and Shirley (Kenny) Vlasman of Watertown; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one sister, Margaret Graham of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; son, Clyde, daughter, Charlene; grandson, Ethan Fanning; and siblings: MaryAnn Taylor, Fred Fanning, and Lurabell Gaspar.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Clyde’s arrangements.
