PIERRE, SD –
Corretta J. Blow, age 90, returned to her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the Highmore Health Center in Highmore, South Dakota. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Monday September 11 at the Feigum Funeral Home concluding with a prayer service at 7pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 12, at Lutheran Memorial Church with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.
Corretta Harriott was born on November 14, 1932 to John and Cora (Ness) Harriott in Watertown, SD. She lived near the shores of Cottonwood Lake while attending grade school in Florence and graduated from Watertown High School as an accomplished French Horn player in 1950. Corretta acquired her secretarial skills at the Mankato Commercial College before landing her first job with the South Dakota Attorney General’s office in 1951. After moving to Pierre, she met Robert A. Blow and they were married on August 17th, 1952. Corretta worked part time for many years while she and Bob raised four boys and returned to full time employment with the South Dakota Supreme Court in 1976. She was so proud to have served multiple Justices, Law Clerks and Attorneys. She retired in July of 2000 under the employ of Chief Justice Robert Miller.
Corretta and Bob, for many years, worked tirelessly on their small farm on the North side of Pierre which kept the family busy and the boys out of mischief. Corretta saved ample time to be active in the Lutheran Memorial Church quilters club that stitched, stretched and sewed thousands of quilts made from repurposed cloth. These patchwork quilts were sent all over the world in relief to those who were less fortunate. She continued cutting up squares and sewing together quilt tops well into her 80’s until time and mobility ceased to make that possible.
Grateful to have shared Corretta’s life are her children: Sidney of Sioux Falls; Brad and Jean of Pierre; Mark and Teresa of Sioux Falls; Timothy of Pierre; along with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Corretta was the last survivor of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her husband Robert, brother Jerome Harriott, parents John and Cora Harriott and brothers Sidney and Roger Harriott who died from early childhood disease and occupied a special place in her heart for over 75 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to the Lutheran Memorial Quilters Club, 320 E. Prospect Ave, Pierre, SD 57501.
